Chapter House is the contemporary refurbishment and extension of a former Victorian School House providing approximately 34,000 sqft of office accommodation.
The existing School House was constructed in 1886 for the London School Board, and was significantly altered in the 1980s where all of the original internal structure was removed.
This proposal, working alongside Buckley Grey Yeoman, forms part of the Chapter and Verse development – a refurbishment and extension of the school building (Chapter) and a new Grade-A office building in place of a poor quality 1980s structure (Verse)
Dedicated entrances on both Cranwood Street and Brunswick Place connect through into a new reception and remodeled core. The existing floor plates have been optimised to make the most of the over 4m ceiling height with sprayed exposed services, soffit and contemporary lighting throughout. Exposed brickwork and painted structural steel has been left throughout the building to add character to the base build office space.
The existing roof level is completely removed and rebuilt in brickwork with an additional glazed level and plant room above. The building is additionally extended to the east in buff and red brick to match the host building. Two terraces to the third floor provide panoramic views across London.
